Whether on the street corners of Mexico or Cuba, many species of native songbirds can be seen in cages for sale. These birds have been taken from the wild because of the money their beauty or song may bring, but they do not belong in cages nor should be sold. In some places in the world keeping birds in the house is still a tradition, part of the family, however many of these caged birds suffer from inadequate care. And, importantly, depending on the country and species, it may be illegal to capture, sell, or keep them…so we don’t want to contribute to this illicit trade by buying them. Join the “YO NO COMPRO” chorus, and help keep birds in the wild where they belong!
