When we think of zoos we may think mostly about mammals, but most zoos offer great opportunities to also observe birds, whether in enclosures or an aviary. These facilities which are dedicated to wildlife education and conservation have been a major partner in the celebration of World Migratory Bird Day, featuring special bird-related events for zoo-goers. But every day is Bird Day at zoos, many of which have an aviary where you experience the excitement of seeing free-flying birds at close range. Such aviaries may feature bird species from around the world, like the National Aviary in Pittsburgh, or focus on regional species, like at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson. See if there’s an aviary in your city!
