We’re often enticed to go out and look for (or “chase,” if you’re a more serious birder) birds with our best birding buddies, but one of the greatest gifts you can give a child is to take them out birding with you.  It’s true, birds are quick and it can be frustrating trying to see them, and how do you know what you’re looking at, anyway?!  But just the exposure to enjoying birds in nature allows kids to learn about the animals that use the habitat near where they live, and to value the special trips to see what new bird they might find there as the seasons change.  Every ornithologist has a story about how they were taken out to see birds as a child, an experience that changed their life.
