Most birds build nests to contain their eggs and nestlings. Its tempting to provide nesting materials for birds that they might use, however there are many do’s and don’ts when it comes to helping birds with the nesting process. You can provide any natural material such as dead twigs, leaves, dry grass, feathers, moss, etc. What you should never provide is plastic strips, as plastic is incredibly bad for birds. Tinsel, cellophane, dryer lint, etc. These materials may seem beneficial as you can find them in many birds nests- however they are extremely unhealthy for birds. So next time when you want to help birds put away the plastic and look for natural resources instead.
