From the kiddy pool in the yard to the plethora of accessories strewn around the community pool, plastic has found its way into every aspect of our summer swimming experience. Once you take a good look at all of it, you’ll want to eliminate what plastic you can from your swimming routine. How much of that swim gear you bought at some point—kickboards, buoys, paddles, caps, goggles—do you really need? Clean up these items and find a good home for them, where they can be enjoyed by many and especially those who don’t have such things in their closet. And don’t forget about that swimsuit you wear! Look for sustainable brands which use post-consumer materials, and even natural fabrics like cotton. There won’t be as much to put in that swim bag either, so a washable cloth one should suffice.
