Have you ever been to a gathering of friends or a public event where you look around and see plastic everywhere–plastic plates, cups, utensils, and tablecloths? The next time you host an event at your house or plan one in your community, be mindful of the need to reduce plastic use and instead provide non-plastic alternatives. Many of these items, such as plates and cups, are also made of paper and are available in your grocery store. But even better, you can opt, at least for smaller groups, to provide settings from cupboards and drawers, including ceramic plates and coffee cups, glass drinking glasses, and metal utensils. All it takes is a little dishwashing after the party is over. And always choose tablecloths made of material, not plastic. You and your guests will feel much better without the guilt of environmental impact.
