Leave Nests and Nestlings Alone

Leave Nests and Nestlings Alone

It’s that time of year when the birds may become quieter, or disappear from view or the back yard for a while.  The females are likely on the nest, either on eggs or with hungry nestlings, and parents are busy feeding them.  If you discover a nest in your yard or in a nearby natural area, avoid disturbing it.  Keep your distance, and don’t make repeated visits as this may clue in potential predators to its presence.  And never advertise the existence of a nest on birding listserves or on social media.  Give the family privacy, and let them successfully rear their young!
