May 11th is the official spring celebration of World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD), the largest celebration of migratory birds in the world. In the Western Hemisphere, the event is coordinated by Environment for the Americas , a Colorado-based organization that works to connect people to bird conservation. We work with over 700 sites and organizations that introduce the public to migratory birds and the ways that everyone can help to protect them. Join us this year, today or on a day that works best for you and the birds. Host a program, start a festival, volunteer at an event, and share our conservation messages to raise awareness about migratory birds. This year’s message is “Protect Birds: Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution,” and World Migratory Bird Day is promoting plastic cleanups across the globe. Hosting a cleanup is not as difficult as you might think, especially with the tools we provide you. Visit EFTA’s shop at https://www.environmentamericas.org/shop/, to find everything you need for an event–our 2019 Organizer’s Guide, Cleanup Kits, posters, and educational pamphlets. Find free resources, many also in Spanish, at: https://www.migratorybirdday.org/resources/, including social media packets, press release templates, and a PowerPoint presentation. This will make it easy for you and your community to enjoy the day and make a difference for birds!
