Bees have always been important to our lives, both directly and indirectly, given their role in producing not only yummy honey but also as pollinators for our gardens and agriculture. Especially now, however, with their numbers in severe decline, we have started to talk more about their critical economic and environmental value. Bees also make beeswax, a natural wax which is used in many consumer products today, from lip gloss and other cosmetics to moisturizers and hair products, even reusable coated food wrap—all plastic free. It is also used in making candles, which spares us the plastic found in or wrapping many types of candles. So support a bee today in any way you can, through your purchase of beeswax products, creation of a wood or bamboo bee “habitat” (house), or by planting pollinator flowers in your yard.
