Summer is a good time for painting that room that has needed it for a while, when you can open the windows and air out the house. But when you choose your paint, pay attention to what it contains. Most paints are made with pigments, binders, solvents, and other additives, but many of the low-cost paints have binders which contain plastic. Opt instead for higher quality paints that use binders made of natural oils, like linseed oil, instead of synthetics. While it might cost more in the short run, you will be pleased with the results since higher quality and water-based paints, which lack the plastic fillers, last longer and provide a more consistent coat. And, of course, your investment will mean that less plastic, which despoils the environment and threatens our health, will be produced and used.
