How many times have you been in a business office—from your dentist to your bank—and been duped into looking closely at a potted plant or flower which turns out to be made of plastic? The next time you’re there it becomes something to disregard, an empty decoration. And nothing is ever as sad as an old, dusty bouquet of plastic flowers in a cemetery, left long ago presumably to last the ages. Over the decades, we have traded effort for convenience, replacing what used to be natural with something made of plastic. Instead of these static soulless items, encourage use of live plants and flowers. These, too, can last for a long time and, despite the maintenance required, they will bring much more color, joy, and true remembrance.
